The Working Men’s College of Melbourne was first found in the 1880s before it officially become RMIT (Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology) with the goal of providing education to the working people of Melbourne. In 1954 after World War II, it was renamed the “Royal Melbourne Technical College” and remain Australia’s only higher education institution with the privilege to use the prefix “Royal” as well as the Australian monarchy’s regalia rewarded by Elizabeth II for its contributions to the Commonwealth in the field of education and assistance to the war effort. RMIT obtained university status after uniting with the Phillip Institute of Technology in 1992 and became the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology University.
RMIT is one of the largest institutions and a global university of technology, design, and enterprise in Australia.
