The University of Regina, located in the province’s capital, is Saskatchewan’s leading experience-based learning university. They ranked 601 – 800th in World University Rankings 2022. Founded in 1911 as a private denominational high school of the Methodist Church of Canada, they began as a junior college with the University of Saskatchewan in 1925 and was disaffiliated by the Church and fully transferred to the university in 1934. In 1961, they obtain degree-granting status as the Regina Campus of the University of Saskatchewan, and students who completed degrees at the Regina Campus were awarded degrees from the University of Saskatchewan.
The choice of courses available was slightly expanded once authority was transferred to the University of Saskatchewan. Campion and Luther Colleges, which managed private high schools in Regina under the auspices of the Roman Catholic and Lutheran religions, respectively, maintained junior college status in conjunction with the University of Saskatchewan during this time. In the meantime, the Anglican Church (then known in Canada as the Church of England), whose St Chad’s College had operated a theological training facility in Regina but had never established significant numbers in Canada west of Ontario compared to larger denominations, merged with Emmanuel College in Saskatoon and withdrew from tertiary education in Regina.
University of Regina have over 200 programs and over 16,000 outstanding students. Internships, professional placements, and practicums, as well as cooperative education placements, are available in 41 programs at the University of Regina, which is known for its emphasis on experiential learning. The University of Regina highlighted experiential learning and career preparation when it launched the UR Guarantee Program in 2009, a one-of-a-kind program that guarantees participating students a successful career launch after graduation by supplementing education with experience to achieve specific educational, career, and life goals. Partnership agreements with provincial crown companies, government departments, and private corporations have supported the University of Regina in both placing students in work experience opportunities and assisting students in finding jobs after graduation.
